Welcome to Snack Chat, Frito-Lay’s blog and online outlet for telling the “good fun” Frito-Lay story – a story marked with a long history of inspiring well-being, starting with our company’s founders, Herman Lay and Elmer Doolin, and continuing today with the work we’re doing in areas such as environmental sustainability and health and wellness.
We launched Snack Chat to better connect with and learn from you, our online friends, on the topics important to us – health and wellness (especially healthier snacking), environmental sustainability and serving as an employer and partner of choice – as well as the topics important to you. Ultimately, Dave Philips, our Chief Blogger, -- and select members of the Frito-Lay Snack Chat Team -- will use this blog to educate, converse and share insights about our snacks and our people; while aiming to inspire well-being in all of our readers in the process.
A Note From Dave Philips: I’ve been a member of the Frito-Lay team for more than 30 years – nearly as long as I’ve been married to Janis, my lovely wife of 33 years. As I prepare to retire this spring, I can’t imagine a life without Frito-Lay in it (and quite frankly, I like having a place to share with others what I’ve learned and what I think). So, I will be blogging about Frito-Lay even in my retirement. I guess that’s not really retirement, is it?
My passion for this business is what inspires me to tell the Frito-Lay story and share with you the stories, news, insights and unique happenings around Frito-Lay snacks, our people, our communities and our company.
So, who am I, really? I’m a husband, father and grandfather. Janis and I have one daughter, three sons, and so far, three grandsons. My personal interests include photography, reading, bicycling, boating and fishing (not catching). It’s a great morning when my son, Brett, and I go for a 25 mile bike ride around White Rock Lake in Dallas.
Janis and I enjoy a bit of adventure too, and our best vacation was three years ago when we went on safari to Kenya and Tanzania for two weeks. After I retire, Janis and I look forward to spending more time with our grandchildren and traveling to new and exciting places.
Frito-Lay hasn’t been my only career though -- I’ve enjoyed three main jobs in my life. My first job after college was working as a journalist for Ford Motor Company in Detroit. My second job was working as a lawyer, first in Detroit and then at Frito-Lay in Dallas. During the past 20-plus years, I settled into a career in Marketing at Frito-Lay. So in a sense, writing this blog brings my career full circle.
I look forward to telling you about all the great work we’re doing – inside our company and in communities across the U.S. We invite you to share in the Frito-Lay story and we welcome your feedback and great ideas. Now, let’s get started!
